About Dr. Burris

Since beginning his medical training, orthopedic sports medicine specialist Michael W. Burris, MD, has aspired to open a practice in Austin, Texas. In 2007, Dr. Burris realized his dreams by founding Capital City Orthopaedics.

Born and raised in Houston, Dr. Burris is honored to serve his community. His patients appreciate his dedication to providing excellent orthopedic care and recognized Dr. Burris as a Texas Top Doc for 2018. He has also received Patient’s Choice Awards from 2008-2013.

Dr. Burris graduated with honors from McCombs School of Business at the University of Texas at Austin while completing his premedical curriculum. He went on to earn his medical degree from the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston. He stayed on at UTHealth to finish a five-year residency in orthopedic surgery and served as chief resident in 2005-06.

During his training, Dr. Burris gained extensive expertise in orthopedic trauma and reconstructive surgery. He continued on to complete a subspecialty fellowship in sports medicine at the University of Kentucky. Throughout this fellowship, Dr. Burris focused on arthroscopic knee and shoulder surgery as well as the latest techniques in ACL reconstruction.   

Dr. Burris is a fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons. He lives locally with his wife, who grew up in Austin, and two children. When Dr. Burris finds a rare moment of free time, he enjoys trail running and a good night’s sleep.
